The girl in the yellow has a chicken tied to her waist. She's dressed in yellow because the militia's colors were blue and yellow, therefore she's there to represent the colors.

Indeed we do have much in common. I figure you're of Polish descent? It's great to find (though you found me :)) more and more people blogging about art... with passion, from wherever they are.

Gawain, I think we may have a disagreement on Rembrandt. I tend to prefer the later paintings, those that are more loose, even the sketchy ones. I think they possess eerie, piercing realism, something akin to Caravaggio, but in entirely different vein. Yeah, we probably agree on our admiration of Rembrandt, that's for sure!

Lovely piece of information on Rijksmuseum. Thanks.

personally, i prefer his earlier and smaller paintings -- two at Rijksmuseum absolutely blew me away: Jeremiah and The Stone Bridge. Btw, Rijksmuseum gives excellent FREE LARGE reproductions of these paintings on their website: how can one not love the dutch?

im a former east european living in better weather also -- but i live in Thailand. it's the mangosteens.
